Phillip Sylvester - Violin

Phillip Sylvester is the new Orchestra Director at Chelsea High School.  Previously working for the Detroit Symphony Youth Ensembles as a mentor and substitute conductor, Phillip has been developing his skills as a teacher, musician, conductor, and composer for many years.   Attending college at Wayne State University, Phillip studied violin with DSO co-concert master Hai Xin Wu for over 5 years.  While studying music composition, he has commissions from Star Wars Fan Films, and a Documentary.  Beginning his conducting training while in school, Phillip ran his first rehearsals and concert in 2015 with the DSO arco strings group, at orchestra hall.  Continuing his conducting training with Professor Kypros Markou, and Oriol Sans.  Phillip has worked with renowned conductors such as Marin Alsop, Kenneth Kiesler, and David Itkin.  The most influential opportunities and lessons came to Phillip while working one on one with students.  Teaching at risk students in Pontiac, teaching private lessons, substitute teaching, as well as student teaching for semesters in both Grosse Pointe South Wyandotte.  Phillip will bring inspiration, determination, and joy to the students in Chelsea.
